FBLA State Competitions..

Melissa and Emily went to a state competition in Ogden Monday night and left Wednesday afternoon. We stayed at the Ben Loman Hotel and we don't recommend it to anyone!! We got there Monday and the Lobby looked pretty descent.. We went to get on the elevator and waited for about 45 minutes until we decided to take the stairs! The stairs however were in case of emergency stairs and were NOT well kept at all-they had something spilled all over them, concrete walls that were run down, and dead bugs all over it was insane! Emily got to her room and something smelt real bad and so she didn't want to spend time there and went down to the 6Th floor to spend some time with Melissa. We got into Melissa's room and it stunk extremely bad! We went into the Advisers room a couple doors down and it smelled like someone had smoked till there death in there so we all went into Mels room. We had a meeting there with everyone and one girl found this tube like thing in the window. She told the Advisers who called security and they said there had been a meth rave and the police had found NINE tubes in that room including marijuana one week prior!!! So of course they changed rooms and told the management and they said they would take care of it. But they still checked that room out without decontaminating it first to Melissa and the girls that were staying with her. That's just not right!!!! So if you are thinking of staying in a hotel in Ogden, don't choose Ben Loman, it should be shut down.

The actual competitions were held in the David Eccles Conference Center a block away from the hotel we were staying at. We had to dress up in business dress and wear tights all the time! Melissa and Sheena Brown ended up placing first in Desktop Publishing out of about 40 other teams in the state of Utah! Her team of Parliamentary Procedure took sixth and she took seventh in Future Business Leader! Congratulations Melissa! Emily took tests in things she had no idea about and ended up answering about 294 questions- INSANE! Box Elder did amazingly well and got jipped, we should have taken the title of State Champs home! We ended up having TEN first place winners!
